 24 aprile 嗓子哑了...今天上了四节课，还不是连着的，居然到最后说不出话来了。。。超级玛丽也有偃旗息鼓的时候？！...哎，没办法，任我怎么clear my throat，毕竟是哑掉了...然后忽然想起，如果在英文里面，表示嗓子沙哑怎么说呢？我只知道感冒了嗓子疼是have/have got a sore throat,不过特别地是嗓子嘶哑说不出话呢？于是google了一下，不期然查出许多有趣的东西来，这里与大家一并分享：）
常用的嗓子嘶哑的形容词是hoarse，可以修饰throat也可以直接用作人的表语，如：
For the past few months I've been hoarse．I wonder what's wrong．．

首先记住 “The English language is permanently evolving and developing. New words and expressions are coined and existing words change their meaning as society, culture and technology progress.” 英语是不停地变化发展的。新的词汇和新的表达不断地被发明出来，而已有的词汇也随着社会，文化，科技的发展改变着原有的意义。
让我们先来学习一种典型的英语风味的造词法--词组变单词
wannabe
A very unusual feature of SOME languages, and of English in particular, is that you can have phrases that can be used as words: a phrase used as a word! 'Wannabe' is a good case in point. It's of course a colloquial version of "want to be" - wannabe: w - a - double n - a - b - e - sometimes with two e's at the end. If I say "he's a wannabe", what I mean is he's an admirer or a fan; somebody who wants to emulate a celebrity by copying that celebrity's dress or behaviour or something like this.
在某些语言里，以英语为代表，有一种不同寻常的特点：你可以把词组变成单词！ "wannabe" 就是一个很好的例子。显然它是"want to be" 的口语表达“wanna be”的组合形式，有时末尾写作两个e。
“he's a wannabe” 就是指他是某个明星的粉丝；模仿明星的穿着打扮言行举止的人。
Notice, it's not a very polite expression. You can talk about other people as being wannabes, but you wouldn't say that you yourself were a wannabe, and if you say about somebody "he's a wannabe", you're really being a little bit sceptical about that person's state of mind I think, to some extent. But it's a very popular term - you'll hear everybody use it these days. 注意这并不是个很礼貌的表达。所以你可以说谁谁谁是个wannabe，但你不会说自己是个wannabe.

hole-in-the-wall
通过连字符(hyphen)把短语甚至句子变成形容词也是英语里的一大特色。hole-in-the-wall 是指ATM提款机（很形象吧）注意这是个英国俚语(British colloquial)，美国人并不是这样说。再来看看别的连字符的构词：“he's a very get-up-and-go-person" 就是指他是一个充满活力风风火火的人。an once-in-a-life-time chance就是一生只有一次的机会。现在你也可以自己玩玩造词游戏了："Who do you think you are?"(你以为你是谁啊？) 是一个常用的表达，你可以把它变成形容词"he gave me a who-do-you-think-you-are sort of look"'. 再变长点: "he gave me a who-do-you-think-you-are-and-why-are-you-looking-at-me sort of look"- 不过注意了：there is a limit to the length you can make an adjective. Tradition says that a person caught standing underneath the hanging mistletoe can not refuse to give a kiss to anyone who might ask. Needless to say this has resulted in many a kiss being given both in friendship and in passion. You may well be wondering where this warm Christmastime tradition came from and I think you will be surprised to learn that this custom was actually inspired by a very ancient Norse legend. This legend tells of Balder, the god of peace, who was killed by the evil god Loki with an arrow made of mistletoe - mistletoe was the only thing that could hurt Balder. When Balder's mother, Frigga - the goddess of love, found out about her son's death she was grief-stricken. She and the other gods worked desperately to restore Balder's life and when they had at last succeeded Frigga was so grateful that she promised to bestow a kiss upon anyone who stood beneath the mistletoe. Thanksgiving began with the first European settlers in America. They gathered their crops, celebrated and gave thanks for the food.

occupation有很多词表示”工作，职业“ 这里简要地比较一下：work 是 最普通的，常表示没有固定工资的工作，housework; volunteer work 志愿者工作； job 常表示有工资的工作，part-time job 零工，an expensive repair job. 昂贵的修理工作；occupation 是比较正式的用语；profession 往往暗含着需要专业 训练的He is a lawyer by profession. 他是职业律师。career 表示事业，生涯；含有 你希望为之付出很长一段时间的意思 teaching / political / sports career 教育 / 政治 / 运动 生涯in view of 鉴于：In view of the employees' disapproval, the manager will give up the plan. 鉴于雇员们的反对，经理将放弃这个计划。
nearly 几乎：It was nearly midnight when I got home. 我到家 的时候已经近午夜了。The car nearly knocked down the old man. 车子差点撞倒了 老人。
